Dr. Jay M. Bersche, D.C.
Chiropractic Provider at Central Illinois Spine · 16 Years · 21 Years in Practice
Dr. Jay Bersche has been a chiropractic provider at Central Illinois Spine for 16 years, bringing 21 years of total clinical experience to every patient he sees. He is one of the most experienced spinal decompression practitioners in central Illinois — and uniquely, he has been a DRX 9000 patient himself.
The Doctor Who Became the Patient
Dr. Bersche's back problems began gradually, and chiropractic adjustments — while helpful — couldn't fully resolve the underlying disc damage. Then the leg pain started. At its worst, it took him 45 minutes just to get out of bed each morning, and a half hour to put on his socks. He needed help getting dressed because the pain was that severe.
A visit to the emergency room confirmed a herniated disc. The recommended treatment: immediate surgery with a neurosurgeon. Dr. Bersche declined — took his MRI and started the DRX 9000 spinal decompression protocol at CIS.
"Within three months I was 100% pain-free and back to doing my everyday activities. And that was in 2013. So 13 years later, I've been basically 100% pain-free since." — Dr. Jay Bersche, D.C.
What Personal Experience Means for His Patients
Dr. Bersche knows exactly what his patients are describing when they talk about nerve pain that feels like muscle but is deeper, the inability to straighten a leg, the numbness and tingling that won't quit. He experienced all of it. That shared experience shapes how he communicates, how he builds treatment plans, and why he advocates so strongly for non-surgical alternatives.
"Everyone was really telling the truth on how they were describing it," he says of his patients before his own injury. "I never knew what that felt like — until I did."
Clinical Focus
Dr. Bersche's practice at CIS spans chiropractic care, spinal decompression, physical rehabilitation, and comprehensive spine health management. He treats conditions ranging from acute muscle strain and sports injuries to chronic disc herniation and radiculopathy — always with the goal of restoring function without surgery or long-term medication dependence.
